About Me

My name is Anthony Alsop and I will be going on a spiel about sport and the impact digital media has on it.

Spiel is German for talk “to play” and sport, is Australian for life. I am passionate about sport, and currently work as a statistician at the Australian Tennis Open and have worked with the Melbourne Tigers Basketball Club. I have even stuffed myself into the ‘Jock McPie’ AFL Magpie mascot suit. Sport and technology are two passions of mine, and it’s become my mission to raise awareness of the positive impacts social media can have for businesses.

Having worked at an ASX300 listed company in the IT sector, I have experience working with big corporations as well meeting with elite sporting clubs and associations across Melbourne and the United States discussing how a broad range of technologies can impact their business.

I enjoy writing and have had articles published on the NBL and Melbourne Tigers websites. This site will be my take and opinion on all issues across sport, IT and how new technologies affect the industry…but I may get into some stuff on the field as well.

After starting SportSpiel as a blog it turned into a digital media consultancy business for the sporting community in Australia. Myself and a few friends also created Digital Sport Summit, Australia’s premier sport and social media event and I also now work in Digital Marketing for the Richmond Football Club.
